Villajoyosa is the town with the painted houses — rows of façades in blue, ochre and pink along the seafront, originally colour-coded so fishermen could pick out their homes from the water. It is also the chocolate capital of Spain, where the Valor factory has operated since 1881, and it sits ten minutes south of Benidorm with its own tram stop.
Property in Villajoyosa
What makes Villajoyosa work for buyers is that it never became a resort. The old quarter is lived in, the fishing fleet still lands its catch, and the beaches — Playa Centro in town and Playas del Torres to the north — serve residents as much as visitors. The tram line runs along the coast to Benidorm in ten minutes and Alicante in forty, which means you can live here without a car.
Almost everything we list here is apartments and penthouses, from €254,000 to about €987,000, one to three bedrooms. Many are within 100 metres of the sand in Playas del Torres and Cala de Villajoyosa — a proximity that costs considerably more in Calpe or Denia.
Alicante–Elche airport is about 40 minutes by road. For buyers who want the services of Benidorm without its density, Villajoyosa is the practical answer, and the tram makes the difference.
