San Pedro del Pinatar sits at the northern tip of the Mar Menor, Europe’s largest saltwater lagoon — shallow, calm and several degrees warmer than the open sea. The district of Lo Pagán is known across Spain for its natural mud baths, and the salt flats behind the town are a protected park where flamingos winter.

This is one of the few places on the Spanish coast where you can choose your sea. On one side the Mar Menor: warm, waist-deep for a long way out, ideal for children and for swimming well into November. On the other, a short walk over the sand bar, the open Mediterranean at Playa Villananitos and the beaches beyond.

Bungalows in gated complexes with communal pools are the local staple — two or three bedrooms, a terrace and a short walk to the water. The main residential areas are Lo Pagán, Los Pinos and the town centre itself.
Prices sit noticeably below the Costa Blanca towns an hour north for comparable distance to the sea, which is the main reason buyers look here. Murcia–Corvera airport is about 40 minutes by car, Alicante–Elche around an hour. The town has a working fishing port, a weekly market and enough of a permanent population that shops and clinics stay open all winter.
