What to Bring from Alicante
Unique Gift Ideas and Shopping Tips in Spain
In any trip, an important part is buying souvenirs for friends and acquaintances or memorable gifts for yourself. For some, it’s a pleasure; for others, a real hassle. So, what can you bring from Spain in general and what to buy in Alicante in particular?
Let’s assume you’re flying with checked luggage—no problem—the best gift from Spain is olive oil and wine. Elegant, stylish, and loved by all. In gift packaging, it’s simply luxurious. Even better, add a leg of ham. But that’s more for enthusiasts, and the transportation becomes much more complicated.
But what if, as usual, there’s not enough space in your suitcase and paying extra for overweight luggage is not an option?
So, we’re looking for a lightweight, small-sized gift-souvenir with a clear Spanish story. Our search will move in two directions: practical and tasty.
Let’s start with practical gifts you can bring from Alicante
Perhaps the person you want to please (or maybe it’s you) values practical gifts more and will remember you fondly when wearing a t-shirt that has little to do with Alicante but is beautiful and whose connection to Spain can be easily explained.
Everyone knows that the richest person in Spain is Amancio Ortega, founder of Inditex. This Spanish company is a world leader in the retail fashion industry. Currently, the group includes well-known brands such as Zara, Bershka, Massimo Dutti, Stradivarius, Pull&Bear, Uterqüe, Oysho. So, a gift from these stores will be as Spanish and practical as it gets. You can find these stores in any shopping center.
Here’s a list of some shopping centers in Alicante and its surroundings:
The largest shopping mall in the Alicante province is in Orihuela Costa called Zenia Boulevard - C. Jade, 2, 03189 La Zenia, Orihuela Costa.
Others are smaller, but suitable for our purposes:

If this path seems too simple for you, consider other Spanish brands, and there are plenty. Here are some we remembered:
Mango – a Spanish brand dedicated to the design, manufacture, and sale of clothing and accessories. It is the second-largest company in Spain in the fast fashion segment, where the assortment is updated weekly.
Desigual creates products that reflect values such as diversity, nonconformity, and freedom of expression.
Bimba y Lola, named after the founders' dogs, offers bright and bold collections of clothing, footwear, and accessories.
Loewe – the oldest and one of the largest luxury houses in the world, specializing in leather goods, clothing, accessories, and perfumery. This brand is an official supplier to the Spanish royal court.
Adolfo Domínguez positions itself as a brand of "affordable luxury." The Spanish Queen Letizia especially appreciates the elegance and sophistication of this brand.
Manolo Blahnik is known to every fan of the character Carrie Bradshaw from "Sex and the City." Madonna once remarked that his shoes are better than sex.
Tous offers jewelry and accessories, and its iconic bears, the symbol of the brand, are known worldwide.
And let’s not forget the footwear manufacturers - Camper, Castañer, Audley, Lola Cruz, Macarena, Berwick, and many others. Bringing back a pair of quality shoes from Alicante is an excellent idea.
Footwear is one of the main industries in Alicante, and the city of Elda is its epicenter. In this town, the footwear of the leading Spanish fashion brands is manufactured. In fact, about 60% of families in Elda are directly involved in the footwear industry. As expected, the municipality has an authentic footwear route with outlets and even a museum, attracting all tourists who wish to bring home a good pair of shoes. So bringing footwear from Alicante will be very appropriate.
If you’re not tired of fridge magnets yet, then traditional symbols of Spain such as paella, flamingos, bulls, the flag, Don Quixote, the Spanish guitar, castanets, bullfighters, and flamenco dancers are cleverly placed by Chinese manufacturers on just about anything. You can buy such products in any souvenir shop, kiosks, markets, basically everywhere.
It would be very Spanish to bring a fan from Alicante. This traditional accessory of Spanish women's fashion will delight both a little princess and a lovely señora-señorita. Authentic models are handcrafted in specialized workshops for weddings, events, flamenco, and they are simply incredibly beautiful and very Spanish.
Everyone knows the main passion of Spaniards is football. Alicante has its own football team, which is called, surprisingly, Hércules Alicante. But as a souvenir, it’s better to choose a Barça or Real Madrid jersey.
Now let's discuss the tasty treats you can bring from Alicante
If there’s something truly unique you can bring from Alicante, it’s turrón. A typical dessert made from almonds and honey, originating from Arab sweets. The main base of turrón production is in the town of Jijona in the Alicante province. Although it’s a typical Christmas sweet, turrón is increasingly consumed outside of this season. You don’t need to go to Jijona to buy good turrón. You can buy it in any confectionery section in stores or even supermarkets, but it’s much more interesting to do so in markets, where you can also taste it and haggle.
Another delicious product you can bring from Alicante is chocolate. The town of Villajoyosa is to national chocolate what Jijona is to turrón. Some of the most important chocolate factories in Spain are located in Villajoyosa. The chocolate tradition dates back to the 17th century when this town’s port became one of the main ports where cocoa from Venezuela and Ecuador was unloaded. Here, you’ll also find the wonderful Valor Chocolate Museum. This Spanish chocolate factory is rightfully proud of the traditional quality and variety of its products. Of course, you can buy this chocolate in any city in Spain.
If you’re not a sweet tooth, you can bring back spicy cured sausage, chorizo (though in Spanish it’s more accurately called chorizo). Made from chopped pork with spices, mainly paprika, it’s excellent on sandwiches and for adding to any dish.
As for other magnificent examples of Spanish cuisine, we must admit that it won’t be possible to bring them back from Alicante. Taking home paella or seafood dishes is a tempting idea, but not feasible. You can take with you a set of spices for making paella or a salad dressing kit to remember the amazing moments you spent in Spain.
The vivid experiences are the invaluable thing you must bring back from Alicante, and they are unforgettable.
Fanning yourself with a Spanish fan, snacking on turrón and chorizo, with a glass of cava (Spanish sparkling wine, in case you forgot), “dressed in something Spanish,” dancing to the magical sounds of the Spanish guitar, on long winter evenings, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Spain.
