Penthouse terraces and solariums: the ultimate outdoor living
The terrace is the heart of any penthouse in Orihuela Costa. It is what transforms a top-floor apartment into a true premium property. Typical penthouse terraces range from 30 to 100+ m² — effectively doubling the usable living space.
Solarium terraces (30–60 m²) are the most common type. Accessed via an internal or external staircase from the apartment, they provide a private rooftop space with 360-degree views. Most come unfurnished, allowing owners to create their ideal outdoor setup: sunbeds, dining areas, pergolas or even a small plunge pool (subject to community rules and weight limitations).
Wraparound terraces (40–80 m²) are found on penthouses where the building steps back on the upper floor. These terraces extend around multiple sides of the apartment, offering views in several directions. They typically include both covered and uncovered areas — perfect for year-round use. Covered sections provide shade in summer and shelter in the mild winter months.
Furnishing your terrace: weather-resistant furniture (aluminium frames, outdoor fabric) is essential. Budget €2,000–8,000 for a complete terrace setup. Popular additions include: a built-in barbecue (€1,000–3,000), glass balustrades for unobstructed views (€150–250 per linear metre), automated retractable awnings (€1,500–4,000) and outdoor lighting (€500–1,500). A well-designed terrace adds both lifestyle value and 5–10% to the resale price.
